Obituary

Aniello D. Scotto passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the age of 93 years, with his beloved children by his side. He was born in Monte di Procida, Naples, Italy on November 26, 1926, the son of Gennaro Scotto D'Antuono and Angela Scotto D'Antuono (nee Fevola). Aniello was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Carmela D. Scotto, his beloved son-in-law, Vincent T. Assennato, and his sisters, Teresa Scotto DiMarco, and Amelia & Clara Scotto D'Antuono. He is survived by his children, Angela Scotto Carannante (Antonio), Connie Assennato, and Jerry Scotto (Nia), his grandchildren, Anthony (Lauren), Peter, Neil (Julia), Vincent, Carmela and Zoe, and his great-grandsons, Anthony Jr. and Francesco, all of whom were a great source of pride and joy for him. He is also survived by his brothers, Domenico & Michele, his sister, Maria Mattera, as well as many nieces and nephews, who were very special to him.
Aniello immigrated to the United States in 1947, where he met the love of his life, Carmela, to whom he was married for 67 1/2 years. Aniello enjoyed his time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He loved to share lobster, steak and seafood dinners with friends and family. He delighted in teaching all the "kids" about boating, fishing, clamming and crabbing at his summer residence on Long Island, in addition to passing on his love of the sea. He was funny, a lot of fun to be around, sang beautifully and was the "life of the party".
Aniello was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association, Local 1814, for 41 years, working in Brooklyn, Manhattan and New Jersey. He was a true gentleman, known for his sense of style and always meticulously dressed. He always presented himself well and had an outstanding reputation. He was a strong man to the end and enjoyed living life to its fullest. Aniello will forever be in our hearts and will never be forgotten. "Fugone", as he was nicknamed as a boy in his hometown, was one of a kind, and a true "Fireball", who is an unforgettable persona to all who knew him. Aniello was loved by many and liked by all. May he rest in sweet, heavenly peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
