Everyone knows what a great cook Aunt Fran was, but for me her Anisette Cookies were a piece of heaven on earth. I remember when I was maybe five or six years old sitting at Aunt Fran's table for dessert after a delicious dinner. I immediately went straight for the Anisette Cookies and a cold glass of milk. As I innocently started to dunk my cookie into the glass of milk, my mother cautioned me against it to remind me of my manners.
Aunt Fran saw that I was both embarrassed and dissapointed and immediately told me with her always present smile, that it was O.K. and that I could dunk cookies in her house anytime I wanted to! For that moment alone and for Aunt Fran sharing her recipe with my wife Mary, I am eternally grateful. Now my kids dunk their Anisette Cookies or "Italian Cookies" as they call them, in a cold glass of milk and I still dunk mine as well, only now it's usually in coffee.
Aunt Fran we love you and will miss you very much. May you rest in heaven's eternal peace and with God's grace now and forevever.
Love,
Paul
