Obituary for Virginia Guarella

Virginia Guarella, 71, passed away on January 6, 2021 at her Brooklyn home.

Virginia was born on December 10, 1949 and has been a Dyker Heights resident all of her life. While attending Hunter college, she met her husband Nick and they were happily married for 47 years. She began her career as a NYC teacher in 1971 while simultaneously working as a waitress. She continued as a dedicated teacher with DOE for 34 years in Brooklyn. When she retired from teaching, she continued to work with DOE in the Certification Department helping many rising teachers.

Virginia was always loving and supportive to her family members and friends and she was very much loved in return. Her biggest joy was spending time with her nieces and nephews and their children. She was an avid patron of the arts and enjoyed fine dining. It always gave her great pleasure to share these experiences with her loved ones.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Nick Guarella; her nephew and his wife, Stephen and Angela Chiaino along with their children Gianna, Samantha and Tessa; her niece and her spouse, Jennifer and Ian Umland along with their children Lauren and Katherine.

Virginia is pre-deceased by her parents Dominic and Antoinette Genovese and her only sister, Laraine Chiaino.
