Obituary for Sebastiana Nicosia

Sebastiana (Anna) Nicosia, 94, passed away on June 17, 2019, after a brief illness. She was born on September 18, 1924 to Salvatore and Mary Cali in New York, NY. She was an example of love and self-sacrifice to her family and will be deeply missed.
She married her one true love, John Nicosia in 1944. Together for over 17 years, they owned and operated John's Deli in East Harlem, NY, moving to Brooklyn, NY with their three children in 1964.
After the passing of her beloved husband in 1970, Anna went to work alongside her sister, Viola and brother-in-law, Sammy in his family's business, DiPalo Dairy on Mott and Grand Streets in Little Italy.
When Anna retired in 1989, she moved with her daughter and her family to Manalapan, NJ. She lived her last three, fun-filled and busy years at Care One in Holmdel, NJ where she made many wonderful friends and was cared for with much devotion and tenderness, which her family is especially grateful.
She is predeceased by her parents; husband, John; sister, Santa and brother-in-law, Salvatore Vitale; brother, Al and sister-in-law, Margaret Cali; and a great-grandchild, Nina Grace. She is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Philip and Gloria Nicosia; Rosemarie and Robert Coffey; and SallyAnn and Paul Failla; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Hillary Nicosia; Stefan and Kristina Nicosia; John and Alexandra Coffey; Maria and Anthony Truscelli; Paul and Nicole Failla; Daniel Coffey; and Philip and Gabrielle Failla; and five great-grandchildren, Luke, Ava, Emma, Paul and Gabriell; her cherished sister, Viola Santomauro; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Andrew Torregrossa & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 79th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11228 on June 20, 2019 from 4-9PM. A Funeral Liturgy Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernadette's RC Church at 9:45AM on June 21, 2019. Burial will follow at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
