Obituary for Savino T. "Sammy" DePalo

Savino T. DePalo, affectionately known as Sammy by family and friends, of Brooklyn NY, age 71, passed away at 5:09 am on November 1, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, two daughters, Danielle and Cristine, three sisters, his mother-in-law, son-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents, Thomas and Loretta DePalo, and his sister, Ann Bavonese.
He was born in New York City, NY in 1951. The family moved to Brooklyn, NY when Sammy was a child. Sammy proudly served six years in the United States Naval Air Reserve. He had a long successful career in Verizon and was involved in the restoration efforts after the September 11th attacks. After retiring, he spent his time with his wife of 50 years in the home they raised both their children in, along with his precious “furbabies.”
Sammy was an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan, who passionately cheered on his teams. He played baseball as a young child through his teen years, and men’s softball as an adult. He proudly coached his daughters’ softball teams for many years. He enjoyed listening to classic rock and doo-wop, and watching his favorite show, Last Man Standing. He lovingly earned the nickname “The Mule” by friends and family, and enjoyed making people laugh with his constant silly faces and jokes. Sammy will always be remembered as a provider with strong family values. He was a passionate, caring, opinionated man, with a big heart.
