Life Story for Salvatore Montagnino

Salvatore Montagnino died on April 5, 2016, 90 years young. He left this world without pain, attended by his wife, Leona (nee Niedospial), and daughter, Mary Euler. Salvatore was born in New York City on October 15, 1925, to Giuseppe Montagnino and Concetta Calderone Montagnino, immigrants from Lercara Friddi, Sicily. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings - Cosimo (died in infancy), Antonio (Tony), Antonia (Anna), Vincenza (Jean), Josephine (Josie), Gaetana (Katie), Mariano and Michael. In addition to his wife and daughter, Salvatore leaves behind his beloved son-in-law, John Euler, his sister-in-law, Elizabeth LaRuffa (whom his heart held as a daughter) and her husband Albert LaRuffa, and cherished nephews and nieces. He served proudly in the US Navy during World War II and later worked for the Department of the Navy supervising shipbuilding and working as a planner and estimator at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Following closure of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Salvatore worked for the City of New York supervising school construction and retired as a custodial engineer and proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 891. Those who loved Salvatore hold that 90 years was not enough time.
