Rosario Gulino, 94, of Brooklyn, NY passed away peacefully at home, where he wanted to be, surrounded by his family, on January 10, 2023. He was the best and most wonderful husband, father, and nonno anyone could ever wish for.
Rosario was born on February 14, 1928, to Stella Cancellieri and Salvatore Gulino in Vittoria, Sicily. During WWII Rosario and his family lived in Libya and he later returned to Vittoria to attend high school. He had to quit school to support his family.
Rosario worked in his father’s carpenter shop in Vittoria and was a craftsman in making Sicilian carretti kickstarting his career as a master carpenter in New York. He arrived in New York in 1960 and got a job as a carpenter working on new homes on Staten Island. He worked as a carpenter until retiring at the age of 65.
In 1962, Rosario met Concetta Calcagno in Brooklyn, NY and were married on February 17, 1963. They were married for almost 60 wonderful years. Rosario and Concetta went on to have five beautiful daughters and raised them in Brooklyn. Their daughters are Stella, Joanne, Maria, Rita, and Elena. They have eight beautiful grandchildren - Tristan, Thomas, Austin, Michael, Julian, Emily, Ethan, and Sophia. Their sons-in-law are Joe, Tommy, Michael, Peter, and John. Family was the most important thing to him.
Rosario was predeceased by his father, Salvatore, his mother, Stella, and brothers Joseph and Aldo. He is survived by his wife, Concetta, his daughters, grandchildren, sons-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was and is loved by everyone.
Services will be held at Torregrossa Funeral Home in Brooklyn, NY on January 15 and 16, 2023, and the funeral mass will be held on January 17, 2023, at St. Mary Mother of Jesus R.C. Church, Brooklyn, NY. He will be laid to rest at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, NY.
Rosario was the kindest, warm-hearted and loving man, always happy and full of life and joy, and respected by all he knew and met. His family was the most important thing to him, and he loved animals. Always leaving food and water for the stray cats outside his house and taking care of the indoor cats he had throughout his life, and he enjoyed spending time with his granddogs.
Rosario will be sorely missed. He was such a presence in the Gulino home. Always there for anyone who needed a helping hand or just a word of advice, taking care of everyone whether it was cooking, shopping, being supportive, or just loving us. We love you, daddy. May you always rest in eternal peace and may the love of Mary, Jesus and all the angels and saints perpetually shine upon you. We know you are at peace and in heaven now with your parents, brothers and all those who passed before you. Ti voglio bene assai, tanto, tanto bene sai. May you always rest in peace. Until we meet again, our beautiful, dear, wonderful, and loving father, nonno and husband.
