Nancy D’Amato was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 12, 1956. She entered the gates of heaven on February 3, 2022. She is survived by her husband Joseph, sons Stephen and Michael, and her sisters JoAnne and Marianne. Nancy was the daughter of loving parents Alfonse and Mildred Sparano and was one of five sisters. She now joins her parents and sisters Betty Jean and Christine in the Lord’s presence.
With a passion for children and education, she aspired to become a teacher from her youth. She attended St. John Villa High School and St. Joseph’s College where she received her undergraduate degree. She subsequently received her Master’s degree and credits beyond masters at Wagner College. Nancy was passionate about her students and worked tirelessly to provide a nurturing environment for their education and their future. Years afterwards, previous students often contacted her and thanked her for the time and effort she put into their education and well-being and how their lives were improved by her efforts. Of all her numerous professional achievements, nurturing and benefiting the lives of her students, was in her eyes, her greatest professional accomplishment.
Nancy was a dedicated wife and mother of twin sons. For Nancy, family was everything and she was blessed with two families that loved her dearly – her own family and that of her husband’s family. Simply put, everyone loved her and she returned that love to all. Her love for her husband and sons had no limits and their needs always came before her own. Nancy was a “people’s person” in the truest sense. She loved meeting people and engaging in lively conversation. She had an air of friendliness about her and a captivating smile.
She enjoyed long walks with her husband, reading romance novels, going to the theater, musicals and love stories, daily yoga, meditation and cooking delicious meals for her family, especially around the holidays. Nancy loved to travel to new and interesting places. Whether it was as a family or with just her husband, Nancy enjoyed the thrill of new sights and experiences. Above all, Nancy most enjoyed the simple times with family and friends that were a part of her everyday life.
Nancy passed away after a nearly 20-year battle with several life threatening and incurable illnesses. Amidst all the treatments and issues related to her conditions, she exhibited a level of bravery and determination to live not just for herself, but especially for her family. She lived her life to the fullest and until her final few months, never let her condition stand in the way of living a fruitful life. She was loved and will be forever missed by many, especially her husband of 37 years and her two sons.
Her family is grateful for all the love, support, and prayers Nancy received throughout her life especially during times of illness. In lieu of flowers or gifts, her family requests that donations be made to the International Myeloma Foundation in her memory.
