Obituary for Marie Lavorata

Marie Lavorata, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died peacefully at her home in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn on May 24, 2021. She was 92 years old. Marie was the loving wife of 50 years to the late Emanuel (Manny) Lavorata, a successful small businessman and entrepreneur. Marie was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, by her parents the late Dominick and Mary Cannizaro. Marie attended St. Ephrem’s Catholic Academy and was a graduate of St. Brendan’s High School. She is survived by her son, Dr. Carl Lavorata (Sylvie), and daughters Denise Gormley (Art) and Deborah Navarro (Derek Lawlor); seven grandchildren, Dana Gentile (Mario), Lauren Navarro, Ashley Adams (Nate), Brittany Gormley, Tiffany Navarro, Cassie Adley (Brennan) and Ryan Lavorata; three great grandchildren, Giovanni and Luca Gentile and Peyton Adley. Before Marie was married in 1948, she worked as a private secretary in Manhattan. She was a devoted and patient parent and role model for her three children. An excellent cook, Marie enjoyed hosting large family gatherings at her Brooklyn home. She had a wide circle of close friends and acquaintances and enjoyed foreign travel. She and her late husband enjoyed visiting Italy, traveling throughout Europe and for nearly 30 years, spending winters in Aruba. She has many loving friends there and was named an Ambassador of Goodwill by the Aruban Tourist Authority in 2006.
