Obituary for Joseph E. Maffia

Joseph Edward Maffia, born July 5, 1933 in Long Island City, NY passed away at his home in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn on Monday, February 20, 2023.
Joseph was the eldest of three brothers and son of Rose Anna and Alfred Anthony Maffia. He attended P.S. 83 primary school in Long Island City and studied at Brooklyn Tech. He then joined the Army ROTC and later received his master’s degree in electronics engineering from Manhattan College and also a master’s degree from New York University Stern School.
Joseph married Barbara Jean. They raised two children, Richard and Janet. Joseph is survived by his son Richard (Carol) Maffia, his 3 grandchildren, Samantha, Sabrina and Crystal and his brother Robert (Carmen) Maffia.
Joseph was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was also a devout Catholic who dedicated all of his free time contributing and working on many capacities at his local parish, St Bernadette on 13th Avenue, Brooklyn. Joseph was always eager to lend a hand to his fellow parishioners with love and through many acts of kindness. He attended mass daily and loved walking across the street to enjoy a jelly doughnut from Tasty Pastry.
Joseph worked as a Senior Marketing Engineer for Varian Associates which later became part of Communications & Power Industries (CPII). His extensive client portfolio included Globecomm Systems Inc., Rainbow Network Communications and Cablevision to name a few. His impeccable work ethics and dedication earned him the respect of his clients, superiors and colleagues. He will always be remembered as the salesman who brought the best pastries to his customers!
We are certain, Joseph’s soul was ushered away by his Guardian Angels and lead straight to the gates of Heaven where he was received with Joy and Eternal Love. We are also certain he’ll be watching and protecting his family from Heaven.
Joseph, we love you, we miss you and thank you for all the love, unwavering faith in The Almighty God and kindness for family and fellow man you showed us during your lifetime. It’s a legacy we’ll treasure in our hearts forever.
