Obituary for John C. Meringolo

It is with the deepest sorrow we announce the death of John Charles Meringolo, age 48, who passed away suddenly November 16, 2022. John was born December 1, 1973 in Dyker Heights,Brooklyn to parents Richard Meringolo and Maria Colonna.

John’s unparalleled work ethic and competitive spirit helped him become one of the preeminent trial attorneys in the country. John had the privilege of careers in law, academia, entertainment, and publishing. John represented hundreds of clients with his law office Meringolo & Associates in criminal proceedings, corporate matters, and trusts and estate litigation nationwide, most notably Joseph Merlino, James Grant, Gregory DePalma, Thomas Carbinaro, Edmond Boyle, Matthew Libous, and John Gotti, Jr. as well as negotiating a historical settlement for the Estate of Joseph Graffagnino, a New York City firefighter who died in the Deutch Bank Building fire. John continued his love for the law becoming an adjunct professor at New York Law, in which he also ran a mentor program for law students. At Pace Law School he taught Trial Advocacy and Federal Criminal Practice Simulations (the latter of which he co-founded). Never one to rest on his laurels, John also pursued business ventures, Driven to Rock and publishing, working with icons like Joe Montana, Muhammad Ali and many Nascar drivers. John also began a writing career, writing the first in a planned series Attorney At Law that he hoped to publish soon.
His professional accomplishments are beyond compare, but that is not what defined John. John will always be remembered for the way he loved his family and friends and the generosity he extended to everyone he met. He frequently went out of his way to help total strangers, knowing that a single kind gesture can go a very long way. His greatest legacy will be his two sons, Charles and Anthony, whom he loved beyond measure. John will also be missed every day by his wife Kristen, his mother Maria Colonna, father Richard Meringolo, sister Maria, brother in law Kelly Cobb and beloved niece Emma plus his loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and many many great friends.
