Obituary for Jacqueline Dabel St. Laurent

Jacqueline Dabel St. Laurent was born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti on January 1st, 1937. She was the product of a seamstress and a sergeant, Cleante Chery and Louis Dabel. Also, the sister of the deceased Raymonde Dabel and Gaston Chery. Sadly, Jacqueline lost her mother at the age of 8; thus, she and her sister Raymonde were sent to live at the Madame Boisvert school up until she became a teacher. Jacqueline also taught there until she migrated to Brooklyn, New York. Then, she married Claude Emmanuel St. Laurent and together they had three beautiful children.

Jacqueline leaves behind her daughter Claudia and son-in-law Ran, her daughter Jasmine, her son Christian, nephew ‘bonus son’ Patrick Chery, and her eldest niece Maggie. Jacqueline is also leaving behind three lovely grandchildren: Stevenchy, Chelsea and Nicholas, as well as her grand dogs: Lenox and Hazelnut. Jacqueline was survived by her family: Lionel and sister-in-law Evelyn Dabel, Jacque and sister-in-law Nerlande Dabel, and Frantz and sister-in-law Mona Dabel, as well as her cousins: Immacula, André Wiston, Joseph Jacque, Kessler, Yvette, Yvrose, Frantz, Colleen, Yvens, and Yves Dabel. She also has an abundance of nieces and nephews: Dabel, Monfiston, Chery, Boucicaut, and St. Laurent, along with close friends that became like family, Saint-Joy and Canal-Mckelenbough. Her sister-in-laws, and all of her nieces and nephews through marriage admired her so much that they considered her a blood relative.

Jacqueline was a very intelligent woman with multicultural talents, who spoke different languages (Haitian Creole, French, and English) and was extremely sociable. She wore many hats – the family advocate, mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, teacher, business owner, member of her church choir, cosmetologist, actress, journalist, and certified nurse aide. She also participated in her community and belonged to several organizations such as the Girl Scouts of CASHEGHA, Global Sport, KOFA, and JFK senior center just to name a few. She was always available to serve her associates, parishioners, neighbors, friends, and family members in times of need. She also enjoyed reading, dancing, traveling, praying, knitting, singing, dining out, speaking French and attending social events. Ultimately, she loved life and was a social butterfly – an unmatched admiration.

Everywhere Jacqueline went, she managed to touch so many lives and left a lasting impression. Her charming personality even managed to penetrate through the town of Burlington, New Jersey. We will, forever, remember her smile, her touch, her presence, her love for the French language, and her fascinating fashion sense, especially her love for high heels ‘of course’. Jacqueline Dabel St. Laurent you were an amazing human being and you will be missed. Sent from my iPhone
