Obituary for Guglielmo Squarciafico

Guglielmo Squarciafico, 90, of Brooklyn NY, passed away on Saturday February 18th, 2023 surrounded by his children.

Guglielmo was born on September 2nd, 1932 to Francesco and Giuseppina (DiPietro) Squarciafico. He grew up in Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, Avellino. Guglielmo was an only child. At 19 years old, he married the love of his life, Annunziata Gargano. For over 60 years, he loved his wife endlessly.

Guglielmo worked in Switzerland for over 13 years. During this time, he spent his days working tirelessly blasting mountains and building railroads. He spent his nights washing dishes; all to save money to provide for his wife and children back in Italy. Guglielmo came home during the harvest season to work on the family’s farm and to spend the holidays with them. All of his hard work and sacrifice was done for his family that he loved so much. In 1970, Guglielmo had saved enough money to move his wife and his three children, Francesco, Josephine and Vito, from Italy to Brooklyn in order for them to have a better life.

Once living in Brooklyn, he started working with is brother-in-laws in construction. He was an extremely hard worker. His work ethic was admired by everyone that knew him. For someone who came to a new country with his family and a few dollars in his pocket, he was able to create and build a beautiful life.

Guglielmo was predeceased by his wife, Annunziata and son-in-law Mario Iacona. He is survived by his son Francesco (Frank) Squarciafico and his wife Francesca; his daughter Josephine Iacona; and his son Vito Squarciafico and his wife Rita; his grandchildren Daniela Carbonella (Greg), Armando Iacona (Stephanie), Nadia Weaver (Matt), Diana Christiano (Frank), Nancy Platek (Jeff), William Squarciafico (Rebecca), Mary DelVecchio (Mitch). Guglielmo was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren; Alexander, Adrianna, Isabella, Alessandra, Logan, Lucas, Julianna, Stella, Colin, Milania, Gregory, William Jr, Makayla, Tyler and another baby girl on the way.

Guglielmo was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
