Gennaro Lengua – 4/19/43 – 2/4/21
It is with great sadness that we pass along the news of the passing of our beloved father Gennaro Lengua, who died on February 4, 2021 at the age of 77. Born April 19, 1943 in Italy, son of Gabriel and Giuseppina, Dad came from a large family of nine children. He came to America as a boy, grew up loving baseball (Mickey Mantle was his idol), met, fell in love with and married Theresa Bove. Raised three loving children, Gabriel, Theresa and Lori in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. Dearly loved his grandchildren Christopher, Matthew, Brendan and Andrew – and his granddog, Oscar. “Jerry the barber” as he was known to his customers, Dad opened a successful barbershop in Brooklyn. Because of his skill at his trade and the way he dealt with his customers, they stayed very loyal to him, even throughout change later in his life. Dad loved his garden, was meticulous in the way he kept it and prized his fig and peach trees. Dad enjoyed his trips to Spring Lake and looked forward to his visits to Atlantic City. A family man who would sacrifice anything for his family, an entrepreneur, a whiz with numbers and an optimist who believed anything was possible in America, the greatest country on earth. And it was never about him, always about others. Devoted husband, loving father and grandfather – he will be greatly missed but always remembered.
For those wishing to pay their respects, Gennaro will be held at Torregrossa Funeral Home (1305 79th St, Brooklyn, NY) on Monday, February 8th from 7pm – 9pm and Tuesday, February 9th from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. A funeral mass will be held at St Bernadette church (8201 13th Ave, Brooklyn, NY) on Wednesday, February 10th at 9:45 am.
