Obituary for Elizabeth Asella Barkley

Elizabeth Barkley of Brooklyn NY went to her rest on March 5th, 2021. Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of James & Victoria Barkley. She was a graduate of the School of Nursing in Trinidad & Tobago, her country of origin. Elizabeth went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, here in the US, her adopted country.

Elizabeth was a medical professional who dedicated her life to serving others. She began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse. In 1981, Elizabeth reached a pinnacle of the nursing profession when she graduated to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). The lives of literally thousands of people were positively impacted by Elizabeth’s medical skills and her compassion.

Elizabeth made medical missions to Haiti and other third world countries serving indigenous populations all at her own expense and on her own vacation time. She provided the anesthesia services for the surgical teams that brought life-saving medical care to Haiti after the earthquake disaster of 2010.

For all her professional success however, her most fulfilling accomplishment was being a proud Mom to her son, Wendell and daughter, Michelle. For her, family was everything. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than being a positive role model and an unwavering beacon of influence to her children. Elizabeth was devoted to her faith and God! She was a registered parishioner of St. Therese of Lisieux Church.

Elizabeth is the beloved and loving mother of Wendell Hinds-Barkley and Donna Michelle Victoria Henry. Grandmother to Destin Henry, Daelen Henry, and Nevaeh Hinds-Barkley. Cherished sister of Angela, John, Patrick, Monica, Vincent, Leonard, James, Peter, Michael, Charles, Victor & Raymond. Her memory will also live in the hearts of countless nieces, cousins nephews, and friends.

“Rest in Heaven Elizabeth A. Barkley.”
