Obituary for Eleanor M. Apicella

Eleanor Marie Apicella
A gentle woman who gave her love, dedication and devotion freely and fiercely for God and family.
Having lost her own father at a very early age, Mom was thrust into and adopted by the preceding
“Greatest Generation.” Consequently, she became the quintessential independent woman.
Mom was voted best athlete in her high school and went on to study bookkeeping and accounting;
working as a professional in this field for a number of years.

In our father, Mom married a very strong man but one who relied on her as a true and equal partner. In
fact, Mom and Dad were the consummate partners, sharing wholeheartedly in all of life’s every-day
challenges and joys as well as difficult times for 44 years until they parted at our father’s passing in May
1998. Incredibly enough, Mom and Dad’s baptismal records were found on the same page in their parish
archive EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE BAPTIZED TWO YEARS APART. THUS, THEIRS WAS TRULY A
MARRIAGE MADE IN HEAVEN. Their wedding took place at the original St Athanasius church.

Mom’s greatest joy was her children. She was always there for her children especially in the difficult
times including life-threatening illness. She preached the Gospel always; occasionally using a word or
two. She quietly set the gold standard of Christian living for all who know and love her forevermore.
Most of all Mom loved her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Mom is survived by her 4 children:

MaryAnn Tweedy (& husband Thomas Tweedy).
Francis (wife Laura; nee Shyne)
Catherine Apicella and
Christine Alfieri (husband Anthony; deceased)
As well as 5 grandchildren:
Michael Tweedy
Caitlin Van Manen (nee Tweedy; husband Joseph)
Matthew Apicella
Peter Apicella and
Anthony Alfieri
And one Great grandchild
Evelyn Van Manen
