Obituary for Vincent Sottile

Vincent James "Jimmy" Sottile, 94, passed away Monday July 31st, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife: Lucy Sottile, his five daughters: Marie Camaneras (Dean), Janet Clark, Lucretia O'Reilly (Rob), Audry Horan (Jimmy), & JoAnn Drost, as well as 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jimmy was born in New York's lower East Side on June 23, 1923 to Joseph & Mary Sottile, who had emigrated to the U.S. from Sicily. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his service, he returned to Brooklyn where he married and later established Eifel Furniture Refinishers, where he worked until retirement. He and Lucy raised their first four children in Brooklyn and in the early 1960's they bought their first home in Deer Park, Long Island, NY. Jimmy was loved by many people. He was especially well known for his upbeat personality, and for being patient, understanding, and kind.

He enjoyed many interests, especially in, history, art, aviation, gardening, opera, and reading, and his passion often influenced those around him toward similar pursuits, with a son-in-law following in his trade in the furniture refinishing business, and a grandson currently serving in the U. S. Air Force. Skilled with his hands and sharp wit, family get-togethers with good food and wine were his greatest joy. He was a man of great integrity, devoted to his faith, a lover of life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
