Condolence From: Taobo Zheng, Esq.
Condolence: Dear Judge Morce: I recalled an individual hearing back in 2014. It was already 11:50 AM when you finished your first case. My client's case was scheduled at 10:30 AM, and both my client and I thought we had no other choice but to accept an adjournment. However, you persuaded the DHS counsel to skip the lunch and insisted finishing our case. The moment we got the approval notice from you, it was almost 1 PM. Without even a bite or a sip, you continued with two cases in the afternoon. My client was so lucky because with your approval notice, her family could re-unite in the United States in the near future. When I stepped out of the federal plaza building, sat at McDonalds, and ordered a sandwich for my late lunch, I was wondering how you could go through the exhausting afternoon without taking any food or drink. I wish you hadn't worked so hard in order to make more people's American dream come true. You are one of the most-respected immigration judge. Sometimes when I walk by your courtroom, old memory of you brings me to tears. The court is never the same without you.

Condolence: IJ Morace was the consummate gentleman- kind, generous, open, compassionate and honorable. He was my first master calendar judge when I began my career with former INS 2 decades ago. Those days were long but I always looked forward to them. He challenged me when I needed to be challenged...but was always kind and supportive. He left an indelible mark and will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, your Honor.

Condolence From: Hon. Kenneth Ayers
Condolence: I've known Judge Morace since 2000, when I was just starting out as a lawyer representing the former INS. He was the first Immigration Judge that I ever appeared before. Over my years with INS and later DHS/ICE, I appeared often with Judge Morace. I knew him to be a man of extreme intelligence, a great sense of humor, a true sense of caring about others and with a quiet humility. Judge Morace was one of the first Immigration Judges to support my application to become a judge. For that, I will be forever grateful. Although I didn't become an immigration judge, I am now an Administrative Law Judge with another federal agency. Not only am I deeply grateful to Judge Morace for assisting me along the way, but I also try as best as possible to emulate his judicial style every day that I preside over hearings. I am deeply saddened at the loss of such a wonderful human being and a first-class jurist. I'll be forever in Judge Morace's debt for all that taught me along the way. Rest in peace, your Honor...

Condolence: The Honorable Philip Morace was entirely that. Honorable. He was thoughtful. He was kind. He was attentive. He was generous. He was fair and efficient. He was loving. All who have appeared before him are better for this experience. The World to me seems dimmed in his too-soon passing. But, the brightness he has shared during his life shall illuminate countless lives for generations to come. May God bless and watch over your family. Rest in peace.
